Monthly Meetings and Other Events 2017-18
Unless otherwise noted, general meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month, September through June. Meetings begin at 7p.m. and are generally held in the MWRA Community Room at the Nut Island Facility located at the tip of Houghs Neck (at the end of Sea St.) The room is located on the second floor and an elevator is available. Programs start at 7:30p.m.
September 6, 2017: Pot Luck Dinner at the home of Carol Johnston, 46 Bay View Ave. We will start at 6:30.

October 4, 2017: Bring the Outdoors In. Barbara Graceffa, an interior designer with nearly 30 years of experience creating attractive and functional spaces will talk to us about how to enhance our living spaces to include plants and flowers.

November 1, 2017: Blended Gardens. Cheryl Monroe. Learn the science and dispel the myths behind the Native vs. Exotic Plant Debate and the best way to make a garden that you, the pollinators, and Mother Earth will adore.

December 6, 2017: Wreath Making with Cynthia Lewis. Create a wreath for your front door. Provided materials include fresh greens, pine cones, and assorted decorations that will be used to fill a wreath frame. Bring gloves, hand pruners, additional embellishments if desired. Cost is $25, due at sign up. The workshop will be held at the Houghs Neck Community Center, 1193 Sea St., Quincy.

January 3, 2018: Art in Bloom 2017. Cynthia Lewis will lead us through her creative thought process as she recreates her stunning arrangement for the MFA's 2017 Art in Bloom that was inspired by a 15th century plate with tulips and roses. (See picture on HNGC News page.) CANCELLED DUE TO EXTREME COLD WEATHER.

February 7, 2018: SEED, The Movie. As many irreplaceable seeds are near extinction, the movie SEED reveals the story of passionate seed keepers as they wage a David and Goliath battle against chemical seed companies, defending a 12,000 year food legacy. CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER.

March 7, 2018: Functional Landscaping. Sam Monkhern, Grounds Manager and Director of the Babcock Arboretum at Eastern Nazarene College, will highlight the importance of using plants that work together, are functional, and can grow in their specific environment as well as the need for bees, insects and birds. We will also learn more about the Babcock Arboretum. CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER

April 11, 2018: Tri-Club Meeting. The combined annual meeting of the Quincy garden clubs is hosted this year by the Seaside Gardeners of Squantum. The speaker is Mary Huntoon whose "Spring Fling" program will include spring floral arrangements. The program will be held at the Kennedy Center (unless otherwise notified) and begins at 6:00 pm.
May 2, 2018: Boston's Gardens and Green Spaces presented by Meg Muchkenhoupt, an environmentalist and travel writer, who will talk about the origins and reinventing of public spaces in Greater Boston.

May 23, 2018: Plant Auction. Please note the date change from June to May. The final meeting of the year where members bring cuttings or plants from their gardens to share with others. To be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Hall, beginning at 6:15 pm.
